How do Price’s LifeGard Systems work?

You have a medical pendant that you wear around your neck, wrist or clipped on a belt. It is water resistant (or water proof depending on your choice of system) so you can place it near the shower, tub, or pool. At a time when you need assistance, just press your emergency button. Within seconds, our certified Price’s life safety response operators will begin a two-way conversation with you through the medical alarm console or right through a speaker on your emergency button should you have a system offering this feature. The medical alarm console is the size of a small answering machine and is typically placed within the main area of your home.
You can speak hands-free and say specifically what you need. Example: “I don’t need an ambulance, please call my daughter to assist.” We note that not all calls reflect emergency medical response. We will do whatever you ask us to do. However, if we are unable to speak to you, we would immediately dispatch the indicated responders on your account. Many customized solutions are available!

How far from the medical alarm system can I be heard?

Our Price’s LifeGard systems offer sensitive speaker/microphones. In the average home, we can talk regardless of what room you are in. In the event that you are unable to communicate, we would immediately dispatch local paramedics to your house. Call 1-866-384-4104 and ask about remote speaker and speaker pendant options.

What if the user is hearing impaired?

Our medical alert systems have a sensitive speaker/microphone. There are also special units amplified for the hard of hearing. When we don’t hear the client and they don’t speak, we will always assume it’s an emergency and send help.

Does the unit work outside?

Yes. If you should have a problem outside the house, anywhere from 600 feet to anywhere you travel in your community depending on your choice of system. For better protection, we suggest choosing a pendant within two-way voice built-in. Call 1-866-384-4104 and also inquire about the new LifeGard Pro IV offering GPS mobile coverage. Within cellular coverage area’s, we will locate you anywhere you go!

Is the medical alert button hard to press?

The medical alert pendant is designed to be pressed firmly in order to prevent false alarms. Many personalized options exist for individuals who may have difficulties pressing the pendants.

Does the medical alert unit work with VOIP or DSL?

Yes. We have special equipment designed to work with these types of phones.

Can I use the medical alarm system if I move?

Yes. Simply give us 24 hours prior written notice so that we can update your file with the new address and telephone number. When you re-install the unit by plugging it in and attaching phone lines, press the pendant and test the system. This way we can see that you are in the new location.

Who responds to my call for help?

A certified Price’s life safety response operator will talk with you through the console or your pendant, depending on the system you select. If assistance is needed, we will call responders and we can even stay on the line with you until help arrives.

What If the electricity goes out?

Your medical alert system has a battery back-up that will operate from 5 to 24 hours depending on your choice of system. When you consider how often the power is off over a five year period and for duration, you can rest assured our battery backup will be there for you when you need it. When power is restored, the battery recharges, so it is ready for any additional power outage. 


How would the paramedics get into my home?

Neighbors, friends, family, or security could have a key. For further protection, consider adding one of our key lock boxes outside of your residence. For further information on our keyboxes, visit here.

What happens if I accidentally set off my medical alarm?

If you should ever accidentally set off your medical alarm, that’s ok. With our two-way voice communication, simply inform our response operator that you accidentally pressed the button. They will disconnect and no further action would be taken. We are there 24-hours a day and are happy to assist you.

I live in a rural area, can I still be covered?

Absolutely! Price’s LifeGard Systems are available through our offices across British Columbia and we service anywhere in the province provided there is cellular coverage in your area.

How do I plug the main console in? Do I lose my phone jack?

You simply plug the system in like you would a telephone answering machine. You do not lose your telephone jack as your phone clips into the console and the console clips into the wall. Your phone works normally through the console.


What does the main console do?

Apart from receiving your pendant signal and activating, the console conducts automatic self-testing regularly to confirm proper operation, and will alert Price’s 24-HR response centre should there be system trouble or if maintenance is required. The console also features a HELP button for manual activation in the same manner as the Medical Alert buttons, as well as a CANCEL button that terminates alarms.

Do I need a special phone jack to install the medical alarm?


No. Everything you need is included for a simple plug-in installation.


How long does it take to get a response after I press the panic button for help?


About 15-30 seconds later, our 24-hr response center will begin to have a two way conversation with you, to see how we can assist you.


If something goes wrong with my medical alarm unit, how do I get it fixed?

If this should happen, simply call our toll free number (1-866-384-4104) and we will attempt to fix the problem with you over the phone. If for some reason we cannot resolve the problem over the phone, we will send you a replacement at no charge. For your added comfort, our system also supervises itself. For example, should your rechargeable batteries ever begin to fail, your LifeGard Pro system will automatically notify us of this condition and we will send you replacements.

How big is the pendant?

Our pendants are lightweight and water resistant or waterproof depending on the type of pendant you have your with your system. They are not cumbersome. Call 1-866-384-4104 for further information on our range of pendants.
